I wanted to share with you today about a recent revelation of mine! I’ve been studying the ancient way of living per the Ayurveda’s writings and picked up a few things that I would like to implement into my daily routine and diet. One of them is removing all cold drinks, foods and ice. The cold extinguishes the internal fires of digestion and creates ‘amah’, which essentially creates disease and fat (per the book).
So my morning shake, my treat for the day, is fully changed! I used to make my Shakeology with tons of ice and ice cold water for the last 2.5 years! AND I LOVED IT! It was truly the best part of my day (expect in the winter when I would freeze but still drink my ice cold shake)! I loved the benefits and one of them was to kick out my cravings for sugar and processed foods!
So 5 days ago, I looked into the suggested Shakeology recipes we receive with the purchase of a bag Shakeology and to my huge surprise, NON OF THE RECIPES include ice or ice water. Water and milk are both specified together or individually, but no mention of ice or ice water!!!
This is how powerful (and harmful for many things) the MIND IS! I created this THING in my mind that Shakeology is to be made with ICE because that’s what it was replacing for me! It was replacing all the milkshakes and frappuccinos I loved. And it did! I haven’t had starbucks frappuccino for years and I can’t even remember the last time I had milkshake. Every morning I made my shake, I imagined drinking a starbucks frappuccino because that’s precisely what it tasted like (without the calories and artificials)!
And no one is to say that you shouldn’t make it with ice and ice cold water! And milk will always be cold because it comes from the fridge! Non of this is wrong and if that’s how you drink it, it is totally fine!
But because nursing is slowing down my mission to shed the baby weight, I decided to implement changes in my diet that are not going to effect my milk production (baby comes first)! And since i am so used to change, I just took up on getting rid of all ice, ice cold water, and cold foods from my diet in order to improve my digestion, which in tern will met the unneeded fat and weight!
Well … it was really strange to make my shake without ice! It doesn’t give me that mental satisfaction of me drinking a starbucks, caramel frappuccino! But I’ve been drinking it in this new way for 5 days now and I LOVE IT! I still get all the benefits and nutrients that my body thrives on and at the same time, I am trying this new, ancient way of dieting !
And to replace ice cold water, I started drinking hot tea 6-8 times a day. It worked like a charm.
There are a few points to this story:
1. Once you get accustomed to great changes in your daily habits, that are already great habits mind you, you will have no problem changing anything you like without even noticing or experiencing stress or discomfort. It’s just a part of your lifestyle to make daily changes for the best. It’s natural. And you thrive with each of them! (98% of americans can’t say the same, which is why they continue to eat bagels and donuts for breakfast)!
2. Notice how much ice and cold beverages and food you consume and cut down on it. If you want to feel the effects of this ancient healthy living suggestion, remove ice from your diet for a week and see how your body reacts to it.
3. I used to be dependent on ice and even though it is not harmful, I rather not be dependent on anything. When I would travel and bring my shakeology with me, I cringed with thought of not making it with ice! Now I changed my prospective fully!
4. Now that I am not used to anything cold, when I drink ice called water, it feels weird and strainful for my throat. It makes me miss the warm and comforting sensation of room temperature or warm foods and water.
Just my observations in my efforts to live more fully and healthy!
