Ok ladies!! It’s time to talk about the WEEKEND because it is very often super hard to continue on with our plan while we are going out with friends to restaurants and bars, or you have a date night with hubby at your fave restaurant, or …. family celebrations, weddings, birthday to go to?? ….. Let’s talk about it here because if you don’t have a STRATEGY to cope with this DIFFERENT type of circumstances, THEY WILL DERAIL YOUR EFFORTS!
Here are a few ideas I compiled and follow to Eating Clean and Healthy When Dining Out:
- Eat well during the day – have a great breakfast and lunch with a healthy snacks after each.
- If you are going to a restaurant – go to their website and study the menu in ADVANCE. Pick your meal including appetizers you think will be healthy and make sure you select those no matter what the rest of your company chooses.
- Once you select your meal ahead of time, do not look at the menu when you are in the restaurant. If you are hungry, you will end up forfeiting your earlier selected healthy choices and opt out for something you would later regret having. Manu’s are many times written in a way to trigger your appetite so select in advance and stick to it.
- If you are dining at a friend’s house, ask in advance what the menu is and what you can bring. If you are allowed to bring a dish, make sure you bring something healthy that is part of your diet, to ensure that even if there isn’t anything else you can eat, you can at least have the dish you brought.
- If you are dining at a friend’s house and you are not encouraged to bring a dish, make sure to know what the menu is. This may call for eating a healthy dinner at home before you leave for your friend’s house. A small salad and a protein will keep you full to the point where you are not starving and making choices that you would later regret and at the same time you can allow yourself to have something small as to not disrespect your hostess.
- No matter where you are dining out, have a small snack on your way there. My preferred snack is having an apple!
- Make sure to drink a big glass of water before your meal.
- Don’t drink your calories. If you are a wine lover, stick to one to two glasses of wine for the evening. The sugar content will trigger hunger, and, again, you will end up eating more than what you anticipated.
- Keep social the whole time – the more you engage in conversation, the less you think about food.
- Stay clear of buffet tables – if you are around them and looking at the food, you will be prone to snack on something.
- MAKE SURE TO TELL EVERYONE about your health and fitness journey! Share your goals and be SERIOUS about it! Tell your husband you are sticking with it no matter what and ask EVERYONE around you for SUPPORT!
